Death of Mughole

Death of Mughole

I’m sorry to announce the death of Mughole, a female adult from Tshiaberimu on February 8th. Mughole belonged to Kipura family and the mother of Mwavita baby died last year too. She died from intestinal obstruction caused by the taenia. We tried to get her in life. Because it is the first time we observe this type of diseases, it is urgent to establish an epidemiological program. More details in the post.

My condolences for the death of Mughole. At least this female gorilla wasn’t killed.

It’s upsetting when any gorillas die – there are so few of them left. What is taenia? could Mughole have been helped by a vet?

Sheryl, I had to google “taenia”, looks like it is an intestinal parasite. God, this poor girl had a painful death. Are you going to try deworm the gorillas in the area?

It was crucial to see gorilla died from that parasite. It is the first case to observe at Tshiaberimu. Normaly gorillas try to get drug from plants. Now we have tried to establish a pemanent health programme.
